Alzheimer’s disease, the sad and slow walk away from reality
Alzheimer’s disease is not readily understood by scientists and the cause is not known for sure. It may be a combination of things that eventually lead to it. One thing that is known for sure is that age greatly contributes to it. The number of people with the disease doubles every year after the age of 65. There is some basis in the thinking that family history plays a part in Alzheimer’s disease as well. Some rare cases even show families that suffer from it as early as in their thirties. Occurrences this early in life is not at all common though. Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease can sneak up on you slowly and they may not be easy to diagnose in the early stages. People may not even notice it themselves. It is often family members that start to notice something is not right. The sufferer may begin to forget things. They may be losing things like keys much more often than before. Eventually they begin to lose greater chunks of memory going as far as forgetting where they live or how to brush their teeth and hair. In time most patients require complete care to keep them safe. Alzheimer’s disease is a brain illness and it can never be cured. The rate of deterioration varies greatly between patients. The stress and frustration a person feels as they slowly deteriorate can be relieved with medications, but it only makes the person more comfortable. There are many herbal and natural products suggested that may be helpful but even with these, there is no cure. Author Notes:
