Getting the goods on herbal medicine

Herbal medicine has become a popular alternative to conventional medicine. Herbal medicine has been around since the dawn of man and recently has been marketed by even the biggest pharmaceutical companies, but it still remains largely unregulated. One must use caution if deciding to pursue this alternative treatment.

If you have decided to try herbal medicine, check with your doctor to see if there are any reports of possible side effects with conventional medicine. It is best to try a combination of remedies to find the one that suits you best. Many doctors have become quite knowledgeable, as the demand from consumers has grown.

There are also a number of herbal medicine practitioners available. Check to see what kind of training they might have. Witch doctors can do more harm then good and you could end up sicker, rather then better. If you buy products at the pharmacy or health food store, be sure to check the labels to see if there are any ingredients that you may be allergic to, or that may work against any current treatments.
