Vitamin A is a family of vitamins that includes beta-carotene and Retinol. Vitamin A can be found in such foods as eggs and fortified food products like cereals. It can also be found in the form of vitamin supplements found at your local pharmacy.

Vitamin A plays an important role in vision, cell growth and cell reproduction. It also helps maintain various linings throughout the body such as the skin or intestinal tract which in turn blacks bacteria from infecting the body. In addition it helps regulate the immune system by producing white blood cells to fight infection.

Since vitamin A does so much for the body, a deficiency can lead to blindness or death from infections like the measles. Most people eat enough of this vitamin through the intake of common foods such as whole eggs, milk and cereals. If you suspect a deficiency in your diet, you should consult you doctor on what treatment would be best suited for your lifestyle.
