The tea ceremony is performed on a tatami mat in a Japanese room. The kettle is heated on a fire, and the tea instruments are laid out in a precise fashion. The necessary utensils are a drinking bowl, tea scoop, whisk, cleaning cloth and Japanese green tea powder. The water is poured from the kettle into the drinking bowl, two scoops of powdered tea is added and then it is whisked to a frothy mixture. With both hands clasping the cup the guest begins to sip the ceremonial tea. Only the authentic Japanese green tea is to be used in the traditional ceremonies.
